Media Explorer, available for both Windows and Linux platforms, enables you to recover the Disaster Recovery (DR) data from tape or disk storage if the latest export copy of the DR backup metadata is not accessible from the export location.

Windows

Download the Media Explorer tool. For more information on downloading the tool, see Downloading Media Explorer.

Identify the latest DR backup using the DRVolumeList file and catalog the corresponding media. If the DRVolumeList file is not available or the required volume is not accessible, catalog the entire media pool to locate the latest DR backup.

If the data was stored on disk volumes using a Unix or Linux MediaAgent, configure the bMERestoreAsFS additional setting. For more information on configuring this additional setting, see Restoring Data Written by Linux/Unix MediaAgent Using Media Explorer.
Skip this step if the data was stored on disk volumes using a Windows MediaAgent.
- Recover the CommServe database files using Media Explorer. For more information on recovering the database files, see Recovering the CommServe Database Files Using Media Explorer.
Linux
- Download and install Media Explorer for Linux. For more information, see Installing Media Explorer for Linux.
- Launch the tool using the
./mebinary. - Select the media type (Tape or Magnetic).
- Specify the session log directory.
- Scan the required volumes by entering the exact volume directory path.
- Specify whether the data is deduplicated.
- Select the required job from the job list.
- Provide the restore directory path and proceed with recovery.
Result
The database files are now available for recovery.
