Use the CommServe Recovery Assistant tool to stage your production CommServe database on another UNIX CommServe host for troubleshooting purposes.
Caution
Use this procedure only for troubleshooting the CommServe database.
If you need to restore the CommServe for disaster recovery, see Recovering the CommServe Database.
After the recovery completes, the tool automatically performs post-staging operations so that the staged CommServe host cannot communicate with clients or MediaAgents in the CommCell environment. The tool also disables all schedules.
Requirements
Review the following requirements before you begin:
-
Run a full backup of the CommServe databases on the destination CommServe host so that no current activity is lost. For more information, see Performing a Disaster Recovery Backup.
-
Verify that the destination CommServe host is running the same service pack level as the disaster recovery backup, or a later service pack.
-
Verify that the latest disaster recovery backup (
SET_XXX) is available on the destination CommServe host. -
If the disaster recovery backup files are stored on a network location, copy them to local storage on the destination CommServe host.
-
If the disaster recovery backup files are stored on disk or tape media, see Retrieving Disaster Recovery Backup from Media.
Procedure
Run the CommServe Recovery Assistant on the destination CommServe host.
-
Log on to the destination CommServe host as the
rootuser. -
Change to the directory that contains
CSRecoveryAssistant.sh. -
Run the following command:
./CSRecoveryAssistant.sh \ -operation Staging \ -dbdumplocation "$[path to the database dump folder]" \ -dbfilelocation "$[database data files restore location]" \ -dblogfilelocation "$[database log files restore location]"Example:
./CSRecoveryAssistant.sh \ -operation Staging \ -dbdumplocation "/DRBackup/SET_001" \ -dbfilelocation "/var/opt/commvault/Instance001/commvaultDB" \ -dblogfilelocation "/var/opt/commvault/Instance001/commvaultDB"
Result
The CommServe Recovery Assistant performs the following operations:
-
Stops services on the destination CommServe host.
-
Restores the CommServe database to the specified location.
-
Verifies the database and upgrades it if required.
-
Synchronizes the CommServe software with the restored database.
-
Runs the required post-staging operations.
Next step
Start all services on the destination CommServe host. For more information, see Commands to Control Services on UNIX Clients.
Note
The tool resets the password for the admin account on the staged CommServe database to admin.
