Configure metadata replication so that the cleanroom environment can restore the production control plane and perform recovery operations in the isolated recovery environment (IRE).
Prepare the recovery OVA for replication
The cleanroom workflow automatically replicates metadata that is required for recovery. Before replication can occur, place the recovery OVA in the metadata directory on the production control plane.
-
Download the CIS-hardened recovery OVA from the Commvault Store.
-
Create a
CleanroomMetaDatadirectory at the same level as the disaster recovery (DR) directory on the production control plane. To view the DR directory location, go to Manage > Maintenance > DR backup (Daily) and view the path on the Overview tab.
-
Copy the OVA file to the
CleanroomMetaDatadirectory.-
DR directory:
/opt/commvaultDR -
OVA directory:
/opt/CleanroomMetaData
-
DR directory:
E:\Commvault\CommvaultDR -
OVA directory:
E:\Commvault\CleanroomMetaData
-
-
After upgrading the production environment, download an OVA that matches or exceeds the production software version and replace the existing OVA in the same directory.
How metadata replication works
After the OVA is placed in the metadata directory, the cleanroom workflow automatically prepares the Air Gap Protect vault for orchestration.
The workflow automatically identifies and replicates metadata that is required to restore the production control plane, including:
-
Disaster recovery backup data
-
Recovery OVA artifacts
-
Cleanroom recovery metadata
-
Threat Scan signatures and related recovery assets
The workflow also automatically:
-
Creates the required replication policies
-
Schedules replication activities
-
Maintains replication configurations
-
Replicates updated metadata to the Air Gap Protect vault
You do not need to manually create replication groups, schedules, or policies.
How software cache synchronization works
The cleanroom workflow automatically synchronizes software packages that are required during orchestration and recovery.
Software packages that match the production software level are replicated to the Air Gap Protect vault as part of the replication workflow.
This synchronization ensures that the recovery control plane can be upgraded during orchestration without requiring manual package installation.
Expected behavior
The following behavior is expected:
-
Metadata replication occurs automatically as part of the cleanroom replication workflow.
-
Software cache synchronization occurs automatically during the replication lifecycle.
-
After a production upgrade, you must update the recovery OVA in the
CleanroomMetaDatadirectory. -
Manual software cache synchronization jobs are not required.
-
Manual replication groups, schedules, and policies are not required.
-
During orchestration, the cleanroom workflow validates that the required software packages are available before recovery operations begin.
