Enabling WORM

Note

You should enable the DD Retention lock option on the MTree in Data Domain Console prior to enabling Storage lock.

Configure the Storage lock on the Data Domain Boost Storage Library. For more information, see Configuring Storage Lock. The WORM lock days configured in Commvault storage pool should be set between the Retention period min and Retention period max values set in Data Domain Console under the Data Domain Retention Lock setting. WORM Lock days is shown on the Storage Policy Copy Properties dialog box. The Data Domain Retention Lock can be set to either Governance mode or Compliance mode.

Configure the Data Domain Retention Lock settings to align with the retention configured in Commvault.

When Commvault deduplication is enabled, set the minimum retention in the Data Domain Console to one day less than the minimum retention configured in Commvault. Set the maximum retention to 2× + 1 times the minimum retention configured in Commvault.

For example, if the minimum retention in Commvault is 14 days, configure the Data Domain Console with:

  • Minimum retention: 13 days
  • Maximum retention: 29 days

Notes

  • Set the minimum retention to a lower value in the Data Domain Console to compensate for delays in auxiliary copy jobs. For example, if the auxiliary copy retention in Commvault is 14 days, set the minimum retention to 2 days in the Data Domain Console.

  • When you back up the DDB and index to Data Domain storage, configure the minimum retention period in the Data Domain Console to 5 days or less.

  • WORM storage optimization is enabled by default. This feature uses micro-pruning to reclaim eligible data at the job level while maintaining WORM immutability protections.
