Restoring a Google Cloud Database SQL Server Instance to a Different Location (Out-of-Place)

You can restore an Google Cloud Database SQL Server Instance to a different location (out-of-place).

Procedure

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Databases.

  2. On the database Overview page, go to the Instances tab.

  3. Click the instance you want to restore, then in the Recovery points tile, click Restore.

    Alternatively, in the row for the instance, click the action button action_button, and then click Restore.

  4. On the Backup content page, do the following:

    1. Select the data.

    2. Click View selection, and then from the Selected items dialog box, select a correct view.

  5. Click Restore.

    The Restore options dialog box appears.

  6. Select Out of place option.

  7. Under Restore type, select Cross Instance restore.

  8. From the Destination server list, select the destination server for the restore.

  9. From the Destination instance list, select the destination instance for the restore.

  10. The Data files section lists databases included in the restore. You can perform the following actions:

    1. You can redirect the databases.

    2. Use the Find and replace option to search for text in either database names or file paths and replace it with new text across the restore list.

    3. You can use the Edit icon associated with the database name to change the database name, data file path and Log file path for that database.

  11. Under Advanced options section, perform the following actions:

    • Under the Pre or Post options, do the following:

      • In the Pre recovery command box, enter the name or path of the process to run before the restore. Alternately, select the file icon on the right side to select a physical client from the Physical client selection list.

      • In the Post recovery command box, enter the name or path of the process to run after the restore. Alternately, select the file icon on the right side to select a physical client from the Physical client selection list.

      • Select Run post restore process for all attempts to run post-restore process after each restore attempt.

      • If you want to initiate the restore as user, move the Run as User toggle button to right.

      • In the User name box, enter a user name you want to run the restore with.

    • Under the Data path, do the following:

      • From the Server name drop-down list, select a media agent server name.
    • Under the Start up options, do the following:

      • Move the Start up in suspended state toggle to start the restored instance paused.

      • In the Job ID box, enter a job number to wait for before auto-resuming.

      • In the Description box, add any optional notes about why the instance starts suspended.

  12. To send a notification email when the restore job completes, select the Notify user on job completion.

  13. You can configure a schedule to repeat this restore operation. To create a schedule, do the following:

    1. Click Schedule.

      The Add schedule dialog box appears.

    2. In the Name box, type a name for the schedule.

    3. Configure the Frequency and Repeat parameters.

    4. To specify exceptions to the schedule, click Exceptions.

      The Exceptions dialog box appears.

    5. Configure the exception parameters:

      • You can click Add Exception to save a set of exception parameters and continue adding sets of exception parameters.

      • Click Save when you have finished configuring the exception parameters.

    6. Under the Range of recurrence section, specify the Start date and End date to schedule the recurrence range of the restore operation.

    7. To save the schedule and return to the restore dialog box, click Schedule.

  14. Click Submit.
