If you are setting up group-to-group network connectivity through a network gateway (where the network gateway establishes a connection to internal clients), consider using a one-way forwarding connection through a network gateway using a predefined network topology.
Note
When you set up a network gateway, you can configure multiple client computers to provide a single logical network gateway function.
Before You Begin
-
The network topology instance requires the following client groups. For information about how to create a group, see Adding or Editing a Server Group.
-
An infrastructure group, to contain the CommServe server and internal MediaAgents.
-
A client group, to contain all clients.
-
A network gateway client group, to be the network gateway client.
-
-
You must have administrative management permissions on the client groups that you plan to use in the network topology instance.
-
Note the following port requirements:
-
Laptops must be able to open connections to the network gateway on the tunnel port.
-
The network gateway must be able to open connections to infrastructure computers on the tunnel port.
-
Procedure
-
From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Manage > Network.
The Network page appears.
-
Click Network Topologies.
The Network topologies page appears.
-
On the right of the page, click Add topology.
The Add topology dialog box appears.
-
In the Name box, enter a name for this instance of a one-way forwarding connection.
-
For Client type, select Laptops.
-
From the Topology type list, select One-way forwarding.
-
Click Next.
-
From the Laptops list, select a laptop group that will initiate connections to the network gateway group.
-
To edit the tunnel port and the keep-alive interval, do the following:
-
Click the advanced toggle next to Laptops list.
-
Edit the following settings next to the Laptops list:
-
Tunnel port: Set this to Default (8403), or enter another port number.
-
Keep-alive interval. The interval (in seconds) for sending keep-alive packets, to maintain the session if backup traffic has an extended pause. Set this to 180 (default), or enter another interval. To avoid idle session timeouts on cloud-based clients, set the interval to 200 seconds or less.
-
-
-
From the Backup infrastructure list, select the server group that you want to designate as the network gateway group.
-
To edit the tunnel port and the keep-alive interval, follow the procedure in Step 9, above.
-
Click Next.
-
From the Tunnel protocol list, select Authenticated, Regular, or Raw.
-
To encrypt network traffic (HTTPS), move the Encrypt traffic toggle key to the right.
-
Select the Parallel data transfer streams for long distance networks (default value is 1, and maximum value is 8).
-
Click Submit.
What to Do Next
If the Commvault software is not already installed on the clients that will be part of the network topology, install it.
When you install the software on the clients, configure the client to connect to the CommServe computer through a network gateway. For network settings instructions during the installation, see Setting Up Connectivity to the CommServe Computer Using a Network Gateway.
