Using Filters to Exclude OCI Instances from Backups

You can configure filters to exclude specific OCI instances from backup operations.

Note

If you exclude an instance that is added using Add > Content, in the Content area, then the instance is still backed up.

Procedure

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtual machines.

    TheĀ Overview page appears.

  2. On the VM groups tab, click the VM group.

    The VM group page appears.

  3. On the Content tab, in the Instance filters area, click theĀ edit button edit button.

    In the Manage instance filters dialog box, do the following:

    1. Click Add, and then select Rule.

      The Add rule dialog box appears.

    2. From the list, select Compartment, Instance, Instance name or pattern, Region, Tag key, Tag namespace or Tag value.

    3. Enter a value for the rule.

    4. Click Save.

  4. To select instances manually, do the following:

    1. Click Add, and then select Content.

      The Add content dialog box appears.

    2. From the Browse and select VMs list, select one of the following:

      • Select Region View to show regions.

      • Select Instance View to show instances.

      • Select Tag View to show tags. All of the available tag namespaces are shown first, followed by tag keys and tag values.

    3. Expand the instance trees to select the content for the VM group.

    4. Click Save.

  5. To see the instances that are selected for the VM group, click Preview.

  6. Click Save.
