On a UNIX or Linux server, you can install the Metallic Cloud package either directly to Metallic Cloud or through the Metallic Cloud Backup Gateway.
Important
If you are moving from Metallic software to Metallic Cloud, uninstall the Metallic software package from the client before installing the Metallic Cloud package.
To restore data that was backed up using Metallic software, reinstall the appropriate package as a second instance on the Metallic Complete system with the same client name and select the Restore Only option.
Install UNIX packages as a non-root user without sudo privileges
A non-root user without sudo privileges can install UNIX packages.
Requirements
The non-root user must have read and write permissions for the /tmp/locks directory.
Files and folders created
For installations performed by a non-root user, the installation program uses the user's home directory (represented by ~) for the following locations:
| Component | Non-root installation | Root installation |
|---|---|---|
| Installation binaries | ~/opt |
/opt/commvault |
| Log files | ~/log |
/var/log/commvault |
Users must have write permissions to access the log directory.
