You can use Commvault capabilities to back up and restore Amazon RDS Custom for SQL Server. All SQL Server versions supported by AWS are supported by Commvault.
You can perform full instance backup and recovery using the following methods:

Amazon RDS native snapshot backups, using an agent on the access node.

Application-integrated streaming backups, using an in-guest database agent on your Amazon RDS compute instance. You can achieve granular point-in-time recovery, since the database agents capture database transaction logs and configuration settings. Install the SQL Server agent on the corresponding EC2 VM that has the Amazon RDS Custom instance and perform backup and restore operations as you would for a standalone SQL Server instance. When you use an in-guest agent, you can perform Amazon RDS Custom for SQL Server Virtual Device Interface (VDI) backups only. IntelliSnap backups and VSS backups are not supported by an in-guest agent.
To restore a SQL Server instance to an Amazon RDS Custom instance, the restore destination path must be under the D:\rdsdata folder. If the SQL Server instance on Amazon RDS Custom is unavailable, see KB article 77505.
