Automatic Association Rules for Server Groups

You can associate servers with a server group by applying rules to the server group. Servers that match the rule criteria are automatically associated with the server group.

The following table describes the rules that are available.

Associated client group list

Servers from multiple server groups with another server group.

Group servers that are in a server group named either Sales or Engineering:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select any in.

  2. From the Value list, select the following:

    • Sales

    • Engineering

Associated library name

Servers that use a library that has a name that contains a specific string.

Group servers that use a library that has a name that starts with "mag":

  1. From the Which matches with list, select starts with.

  2. In the Value box, enter mag.

Associated storage policy

Servers that use the same storage policy.

Group servers that use a storage policy named SP001:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select equal to.

  2. In the Value list, select SP001.

Backup enabled for client

Servers for which backup activity is or is not enabled.

Group servers that have backup activity enabled:

  • From the Which matches with list, select is true.

Case manager hold clients

Servers that are or are not added as assets to a case in Case Manager for Compliance Search.

Group servers that are added as assets to a case in Case Manager for Compliance Search:

  • From the Which matches with list, select is true.

Client

Servers based on server type.

Group servers that are reference copy servers:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select equal to.

  2. From the Value list, select Reference Copy.

Client acts as proxy

Servers that are or are not assigned as a proxy.

Group servers that are assigned as a proxy:

  • From the Which matches with list, select is true.

Client associated with plan

Servers that are associated with a specific plan.

Group servers that use any plan that has a name that starts with "server":

  1. From the Which matches with list, select starts with.

  2. In the Value box, enter server.

Client by Schedule Interval

Servers that use a specific schedule interval.

Group servers that use a weekly schedule interval:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select equal to.

  2. From the Value list, select Weekly.

Client IPV4 CIDR Address Range

Servers by the CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing) address range. The rule can group servers that are included in or excluded from a specific CIDR address range.

To define the range, for one server, enter the physical IP address and netmask separated by a comma (,): physical_IP_address,netmask. The first IP address and the last IP address are calculated from the information for the single server.

Group servers with a physical IP address that is in the address range that is calculated by IP address 10.0.0.0 and netmask 26:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select is.

  2. In the Value box, enter 10.0.0.0,26.

The first IP address is 10.0.0.0 and the last IP address is 10.0.0.63, with a total of 64 server hosts.

Client version v11 and feature release

Servers that have Version 11 and matches a specific feature release.

Group servers that have Version 11 and Feature Release 19 installed:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select Equals.

  2. In the Value box, enter 18.

Client description

Servers that have a specific description.

Group servers that contain "test server" in the server description:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select contains.

  2. In the Value box, enter test server.

Client excluded from SLA report

Servers that are or are not excluded from a Service Level Agreement (SLA) report.

Group servers that are excluded from an SLA report:

  • From the Which matches with list, select is true.

Client is not ready

Servers that have a server status of not ready.

Group servers that are not ready:

  • From the Which matches with list, select is true.

Client needs Updates

Servers that do or do not require updates to be installed.

Group servers that require updates to be installed:

  • From the Which matches with list, select is true.

Client offline (days)

Use this rule to group servers that have been offline a specific number of days.

Group servers that are offline for 3 days:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select equal to.

  2. In the Value box, enter 3.

Days client online

Servers that have been online a specific number of days.

Group servers that are online for 10 or more days:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select greater than or equal to.

  2. In the Value box, enter 10.

Client Online in Last 30 Days

Servers that were online in the previous 30 days.

Group servers that are were online in the previous 30 days:

  • From the Which matches with list, select is true.

Client uses storage policy

Servers that use a specific storage policy.

Group servers that use a storage policy that has a name that starts with "test":

  1. From the Which matches with list, select starts with.

  2. In the Value box, enter test.

Client Version

Servers from a specific Commvault version.

Group 9.0 version servers:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select equal to.

  2. From the Value list, select 9.0.

Client Version Same as CS Version

Servers that do or do not have the same software version as the CommServe computer.

Group server computers that have the same software version as the CommServe computer:

  • From the Which matches with list, select is true.

Client by Index MA

Servers that have the same indexing MediaAgent.

Group servers that use a MediaAgent named MA01 for indexing:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select any in.

  2. From the Value list, select MA01.

Clients by OS Version

Servers that have the same OS version.

Group servers that use the Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard operating system:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select any in.

  2. From the Value list, select Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.

Client by Permission

Servers that have security associations that include a specific permission.

You can specify any permission in the CommServe database.

Group servers that have a security association that includes the Administrative Management permission:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select equal to.

  2. From the Value list, select Administrative Management.

Client by Role

Servers that have security associations that include a specific role.

You can specify any role in the CommServe database.

Group servers that have a security association that includes the master role:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select equal to.

  2. From the Value list, select Master.

Client discovered using VSA Subclient

VMs from a Virtual Server Agent subclient.

You can select a virtualization server, a virtual server instance, or a backup set.

Group VMs from a specific subclient:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select any in.

  2. From the Servers list, expand the entities and select the server, the instance, or the backup set.

Clients in Client Group with Tags

Servers that belong to the server groups that are tagged with the tag name.

Group servers that belong to the server groups that are with "CompanyAClients" and "CompanyBClients" tags:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select any in.

  2. From the Name box list, select CompanyAClients and CompanyBClients.

Clients Meet SLA

Servers that have met SLA based on a specific number of days.

Group servers that have met SLA for 14 days:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select equal to.

  2. From the Value list, select 14 days.

Client with attached storages

Servers that do or do not have MediaAgents installed and have any storage library (tape, disk and cloud) configured.

Group servers that have a MediaAgent installed and a storage library configured:

  • From the Which matches with list, select is true.

Clients with Backup Schedule

Servers that do or do not have a backup schedule.

Group servers that have a backup schedule configured:

  • From the Which matches with list, select is true.

Clients with Encryption

Servers that do or do not have encryption configured.

Group servers that have encryption configured:

  • From the Which matches with list, select is true.

Clients with Front End Terabyte <= 10GB

Use this rule to group servers with application size lesser than or equal to 10 GB.

Group servers with application size more than 10 GB:

  • From the Which matches with list, select is false.

Client with improperly deconfigured subclients

Servers that do or do not have improperly deconfigured subclients.

The subclients might be deconfigured due to a system error, but the CommServe database still shows the servers as configured.

Group servers that have improperly deconfigured subclients:

  • From the Which matches with list, select is true.

Clients with infrastructure roles

Servers with one or more infrastructure packages.

Group servers with the Web Server package:

  • From the Which matches with list, select any in.

  • From the Values list, select Web Server.

Client with long Running Jobs

Servers that have jobs running for a specific number of days or more.

Group servers that have jobs running for 5 or more days:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select greater than or equal to.

  2. In the Value box, enter 5.

Client with no Archive Data

Servers that do or do not meet the following criteria:

  • The server is deconfigured.

  • The backup data is deleted.

  • The software is uninstalled.

    Additional criteria for discovered VMs:

  • The VM is deleted in the management interface for the hypervisor, such as VMware vCenter.

  • The number of days defined in the Number of days to keep deleted VMs option is exceeded.

    This rule helps administrators group servers that might need to be deleted. After viewing the group of servers, the administrator can delete any or all of them.

Group servers that meet the criteria:

OnePass enabled

Servers that OnePass is or is not enabled for.

Group servers where OnePass is enabled:

Client with Subclients having associated storage policy

Servers that are or are not associated with a storage policy.

Client With Synthetic Full Backup N Days

Servers based on the number of days since the last synthetic full backup operation on the server.

Group servers that ran a synthetic full backup in the last 3 days:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select equal to.

  2. In the Value box, enter 3.

Client With Tags

Servers that are tagged with tag name.

Group servers that are tagged with "ToBeDeleted" tag:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select any in.

  2. In the Name box list, select ToBeDeleted.

Clients with Work Load Types

Servers that have a specific workload installed.

Group servers that have the SQL server and Oracle workloads installed:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select any in selection.

  2. From the Work Load Type list, select the following:

    • SQL Server

    • Oracle

CommCell Pseudo Client

Servers that are or are not pseudoclients.

Group pseudoclients:

Company Client Provider Associations

Servers that are associated with a company.

Group servers that are associated with Company 1:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select equal to.

  2. From the Value list, select Company 1.

Company Installed Client Associations

Servers that are installed by any user who is associated with a company.

Group servers that are installed by a user associated with Company 1:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select equal to.

Days since client created

Servers based on the number of days since they were created.

Group servers that were created in the last 5 days:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select less than or equal to.

  2. In the Value box, enter 5.

Days since last backup

Servers based on the number of days since the last backup operation.

Group servers that were backed up in the last 5 days:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select less than or equal to.

  2. In the Value box, enter 5.

External group as Client owner

Servers that have a specific external group as a server owner.

Group servers that are owned by an external group that has a name that contains "ext":

  1. From the Which matches with list, select contains.

  2. In the Value box, enter ext.

HAC Cluster

Servers that are or are not in a high availability cluster (HAC).

Group servers that are in an HAC cluster:

  • From the Which matches with list, select is true.

Hostname

Servers by their hostname.

Group servers that contain "mydomain.mycompany.com" in the hostname:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select contains.

  2. In the Value box, enter mydomain.mycompany.com.

HyperScale nodes of the storage pool

HyperScale nodes that belong to a storage pool

Group the nodes in a HyperScale storage pool:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select any in.

  2. In the Value box, select the storage pool name.

Inactive AD user as server owner

Servers that do or do not have an inactive Active Directory (AD) user as a server owner.

Group servers that have an inactive AD user as a server owner:

  • From the Which matches with list, select is true.

Index Servers

Servers that are or are not index servers.

Group servers that are index servers:

  • From the Which matches with list, select is true.

Local user group as Client owner

Servers that have specific local user groups in the User Groups box on the Security tab of the Server Computer Properties dialog box.

Group servers that have the "master" user group as the server owner:

  1. From the Which matches with list, select contains.

  2. In the Value box, enter master.

MediaAgent has Lucene Index Role List

Servers that have specific index server roles.

Group servers that have the Web Analytics and the Entity Extraction index server roles:

Servers that have a specific package installed.

Group servers that have the Oracle agent installed:

Product Version

Servers that have a specific Commvault package installed.

Group servers that have Commvault Version x Feature Release y installed:

Restores enabled for client

Servers that do or do not have restore activity enabled.

Strikes Count

Servers based on the number of consecutive backup failures.

Strike count refers to the number of backup failures on the server. When the backup job succeeds after multiple backup failures, the strike count is reset to 0.

Subclient Name

Servers that have a specific subclient name.
