Configuring Disaster Recovery Backups for a Kubernetes Cluster

To set up disaster recovery backups for a Kubernetes cluster, add the hypervisor that hosts the Kubernetes nodes and add a VM group that includes the nodes. Then, to immediately prepare a disaster recovery backup, manually back up the VM group.

Procedure

  1. Add the cluster that hosts the Kubernetes nodes.

  2. Add an application group that includes the Kubernetes nodes.

    Important

When you add the VM group, you select a server plan that specifies the frequency, retention, and storage location for scheduled backups. Selecting a server plan that stores the backups in a location where you can use them for off-site recovery to another cluster is crucial.

  3. To immediately prepare a disaster recovery backup, manually back up the VM group.

Results

The backup includes the etcd state at the time of the backup. To restore a single node, you will need this etcd backup to recover the state of the recovered node.
