To set up disaster recovery backups for a Kubernetes cluster, add the hypervisor that hosts the Kubernetes nodes and add a VM group that includes the nodes. Then, to immediately prepare a disaster recovery backup, manually back up the VM group.
Procedure
-
Add the cluster that hosts the Kubernetes nodes.
-
Add an application group that includes the Kubernetes nodes.
Important
When you add the VM group, you select a server plan that specifies the frequency, retention, and storage location for scheduled backups. Selecting a server plan that stores the backups in a location where you can use them for off-site recovery to another cluster is crucial.
-
To immediately prepare a disaster recovery backup, manually back up the VM group.
Results
The backup includes the etcd state at the time of the backup. To restore a single node, you will need this etcd backup to recover the state of the recovered node.
