Creating a Subclient for Archiving

You can create an archiving subclient for data that has the same archiving requirements.

When you create an archive set, a default subclient is automatically created. The default subclient contains the data, archive plan, filters, and exceptions that are specified in the archive set.

Note

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Archiving.

    The File Servers page appears.

  2. Click the file server.

The file server properties page appears.

  3. In the Subclients section, click Add subclient.

The Add subclient dialog box appears.

  4. In the Name box, enter a name for the subclient.

  5. From the Plan list, select the archive plan to use for the subclient.

When you associate an archive plan with a subclient, the archiving rules that are specified in the archive plan are applied to the subclient. You cannot associate an archive plan with older subclients that were created using the object-based retention criteria.

  6. From the Access nodes list, select the access nodes to use for the subclient.

  7. On the Content tab, specify the data to include in the subclient:

    • To enter paths to items you want to include in backups, in the Enter custom path box, enter a path, and then click the add Managing File System Subclients (1) button.

    • To select items from a file system view of the server, click Browse, and then select the check boxes for the items that you want to include in backups.

  8. To use saved user credentials to access the file system, click Impersonate user, and then select the credentials to use.

  9. To exclude items from backups, in the Exclusions tab, do the following:

    • To enter paths to items you want to exclude from backups, in the Enter custom path box, enter a filter pattern, and then click the add Managing File System Subclients (2) button.

    • To select items from a file system view of the server, click Browse, and then select the check boxes for the items that you want to exclude from backups.

    • To configure how global exclusions are applied to the subclient, from the Include global exclusions list, select one of the following:

      • Use cell level policy (default): Enables or disables the global exclusions for the subclient depending on whether the Use global exclusions on all subclients option is enabled for the environment.
  10. To configure exceptions to the exclusion filters, on the Exceptions tab, do the following:

    • To enter paths to items you want to except from the exclusion filters, in the Enter custom path box, enter a filter pattern, and then click the add Managing File System Subclients (3) button.

    • To select items from a file system view of the server, click Browse, and then select the check boxes for the items that you want to except from the exclusionfilters.

  11. In the Backup process settings section, you can enter paths to batch files for pre- or post-processes for backups.
