Performing Backups for Google Cloud Platform Instances or VM Groups

You can perform on-demand backups for a VM group or for a specific instance.

Considerations

If you want to restore a GCP instance that was turned off during a backup operation, you must assign that instance an external IP address using the GCP portal.

Before You Begin

To back up GCP instance disks that are encrypted with a customer-managed encryption key, verify that all instances (and proxies) have been upgraded to Feature Release 22 or a more recent version.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtualization.

    The Virtual machines page appears.

  2. To back up a specific instance, click the button in the Actions column for the instance, and then select Back up.

  3. To back up all of the instances in a VM group, on the VM groups tab, click the button in the Actions column for the VM group, and then select Back up.

  4. To monitor the progress of a backup job, in the navigation pane, go to Jobs.
