Stub Rehydration

Stub rehydration is the process that identifies the stubs and replaces the stubs with the original message. The stub is replaced with the original message even if it is moved from one folder to another.

A stub rehydration job can be submitted to view the summary information about the stubs in a report, to recover stubs, or to update the stub email recall URL.

Prerequisites

To use the stub rehydration feature for all Exchange environment types, you must enable EWS (Exchange Web Services). For more information, see Using Exchange Web Services in an On-Premises Environment and Using Exchange Web Services in a Hybrid Environment.

Support

You can restore the following stubs:

  • Stubs that are created using Exchange Mailbox Agent version10

  • Stubs that are created using OnePass for Exchange Mailbox (Classic) version 11

  • Stubs that are created using OnePass for Exchange Mailbox (Classic) version 11 and imported to Exchange Mailbox Agent version 2

  • Stubs created by Exchange Mailbox Agent version 2

Note

Stubs that are created by the Exchange Mailbox Agent version 9 are detected and reported but cannot be restored.

Recommendation

A stub rehydration job can be submitted to view the summary information about the stubs in a report, to recover stubs, or to update the stub email recall URL.

Before you submit a stub rehydration job to recover the stubs, you should run a stub rehydration job in report mode using the detail options to identify the total number of existing stubs in each restore mailbox. Before you run a restore job for multiple mailboxes using one job, you should run a recovery job on one mailbox or one folder to estimate the duration of the restore job.
