Assign physical storage to the newly created Storage Pools.
Procedure
-
From the navigation pane, click Physical Storage.
The Physical Storage page appears with a list of detected volumes.
Note
-
Disks available through the SCSI sub-system (check
/proc/scsi/scsi
for reference) and created bymdadm
(software raid) will be visible for addition or deletion. Disks with mounted partitions, or of size less than 4GB, is ignored. -
In the case of provisioned disks it is recommended to use eager/thick provisioning instead of thin provisioning.
-
LUN sizes cannot exceed 100TB.
-
-
Verify the Physical Storage list. If the physical storage list does not appear to be complete, click the Rescan button to update the list.
-
Click Add to add a disk for the default pool.
Note
Assign a local disk to the Default pool, so that it is used to maintain the deduplication tables for all the other storage pools.
The Select Disk Properties dialog box appears.
-
Select the default Storage Pool for the disk from the list.
-
Click Submit.
The disk initialization will start and will take a few minutes. Wait for the initialization to complete before adding another disk.
-
Repeat the steps to add an additional disk for the storage pool associated with the data.
Additional Information
A storage pool can consist of one or many disks, but the first disk added to a pool is considered as the master disk for the pool and will be used as the deduplication cache. This disk can only be removed when all other configured disks and virtual tapes in the pool are removed.
