Commvault VTL 2.0 Requirements

Verify that the VTL host that you plan to setup Commvault VTL 2.0 meets the following minimum requirements.

Processor

Dual 16 Core Processors

For example, Intel XEON 4216 or better.

Memory

384GB (12 x 32GB RDIMMS)

Disk

Operating System

2 x 240 M.2 Raid 1

Deduplication Cache

2 x 480GB Raid 1

VTL Storage

3 x 100TB LUNs

  • Can be local, Fiber Channel , or iSCSI.

  • If using iSCSI, the NIC should be 10GB or better.

Notes on Fiber Channel LUN

LUN sizes cannot exceed 100TB.

Recommended to use eager/thick provisioning instead of thin provisioning.

If possible, read ahead cache for LUN on array controller should be disabled.

Multi-path devices for disks are recommended.

Operating System

RHEL 7.9, 8.9, and 9.3

HBA for Tape

Qlogic QLE256X (8GB)/QLE266X, QLE269X (16GB)/QLE2742, QLE2764, QLE277X (32GB)/QLE287X (64GB)

Note

These cards must be dedicated for the Virtual Tape Drives.

Firewall Port Requirements

The following ports must be opened in the VTL host if firewall services is enabled in the envorment:

  • TCP port 433 for https access

  • TCP port 3260 for iSCSI

Swap Space

The minimum amount of swap space in the OS should be set to 32GB-64GB.

Recommended: Swap space should be set to 10% of memory.
