Getting Started with GlusterFS

Step 1: Review Requirements and Supported Features

Review the following requirements and supported features for GlusterFS:

GlusterFS File System (GlusterFS)* version 3.10 or higher

• System Requirements

  Supported on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, and SuSE Linux operating systems on x64 processors only.

Step 2: Install the File System Core and File System Packages on Data Access Nodes

Review each of the following topics to prepare for the installation and select the best installation method for your environment.

• Installation Methods

If you want to also use the data access nodes as MediaAgents, then install the MediaAgent package on the nodes. For instructions, see Installing the MediaAgent.

Step 3: Review Data Access Nodes Requirements

Review the following requirements for data access nodes:

• All of the participating data access nodes must be at the same service pack level.

• The GlusterFS volumes must be mounted on the same mount point on all data access nodes, and the type of the volume must be GlusterFS.

• All of the participating data access nodes and the GlusterFS cluster must be time synced.

• Passwordless SSH must be set up between the GlusterFS cluster nodes and clients. For more information about enabling passwordless SSH, go to the Red Hat Documentation website, Enable Passwordless SSH Access to Back End.

• For every one million files of data, Commvault recommends 2 GB of free space for the job results directory on all data access nodes.

Step 4: Prepare for Your First Backup and Restore

1. Open the CommCell Console.

2. Configure a storage device.

   • To configure a disk library, see Disk Libraries - Getting Started.

   • To configure a tape library, see Tape Libraries - Getting Started.

3. Create a pseudo-client for the GlusterFS cluster.

4. Create a subclient.

   You can configure only one GlusterFS volume for a subclient. The GlusterFS volume must be mounted as GlusterFS and not as NFS.

5. Decide whether you want the following additional functionality:

   • You want to be notified of events that require attention. For more information, see Alerts and Notifications - Overview.

   • You want to report on and analyze critical data about your CommCell operations.

   • You want to manage security.
