To perform a backup for a large number of virtual machines in a limited backup window, you can use proxy teaming for load balancing and failover. Identify proxies on the VMware instance for a virtualization client to enable proxy teaming. The proxy computer can be any computer where the Virtual Server Agent is installed.
You can create a virtualization client with a single proxy computer or with multiple proxies. Adding multiple proxies to a VMware instance is useful in the following scenarios:
-
A vCenter has large number of virtual machines and you want to perform parallel backups.
-
You want to use a specific transport mode to perform network optimized backups.
-
You want to use multiple streams to increase data transfer speed during the backup.
-
One of the proxies might become unavailable during the backup operation.
You can also specify proxies at the subclient level. If proxies are specified for a subclient, they are used instead of those specified for the instance.
