Adding a NAS Server for NDMP Backups

To back up NDMP file system data, you must add a NAS server. (Because the software for the NDMP Agent is installed automatically as part of the MediaAgent installation, no additional software is needed.)

Note

If the data you want to backup resides on a Storage Virtual Machine (vFiler or Vserver), configure the Storage Virtual Machine as the NAS server.

If you want to use IntelliSnap to back up NDMP, add a storage array when you add the NAS server.

Start the Configuration Wizard

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > File Servers.

    The file servers Overview page appears.

  2. On the File Servers tab, in the upper-right corner of the page, click Add server, and then click NAS.

    The Configure File Server page appears.

  3. Click NAS.

  4. Click Next.

    The General page of the Add NAS Server configuration wizard appears.

General

  1. In the Name box, enter a name for the NAS server.

  2. In the Host name box, enter the fully qualified host name of the NAS server.

  3. Click Next.

    The Plan page of the configuration wizard appears.

  1. From the Plan list, select a server plan.

  2. Click Next.

    The Backup Method page of the configuration wizard appears.

  1. Under Choose backup method(s), move the NDMP toggle key to the right.

  2. Click Next.

    The Network Share Configuration page of the configuration wizard appears.

  1. To use IntelliSnap to back up NDMP, add a storage array.

    Steps to add an Array
    1. Next to Array, click Add.

      The Add array dialog box appears.

    2. From the Select vendor list, select the array vendor.

    3. In the Array name box, enter the storage array name.

    4. In the Control host box, type the control host IP.

    5. In the User name and Password boxes, type the credentials for the array.

    6. (Optional) From the Access nodes list, select an access node.

    7. To confirm that the system can connect to the array, click Preview.

    8. Click Save.

  2. Click Next.

    The NDMP Configuration page of the configuration wizard appears.

NDMP Configuration

  1. To specify the access nodes to use for the file server, from the Access Nodes list, select the access nodes.

  2. In the NDMP login box and the NDMP password box, enter the credentials needed to access the NAS server.

    Note

    For NetApp C-Mode file servers, run the generate-password command on the file server to obtain an NDMP password. For more information, see the NetApp documentation for your file server.

  3. To assign a different listen port, in the Listen port box, enter a port number.

    The default value for the listen port is the default computer port socket number assignment.

  4. To confirm that the system can connect to the NAS server, click Preview.

  5. To change what is backed up, do the following:

    The NDMP credentials must be added to change the backup content.

    1. Under Backup content, move the All Volumes toggle to the left, and then specify the content to back up.

      The Add/edit content dialog box appears.

    2. For Content, click Add > Browse or add Custom path.

    3. To exclude files and directories from backups, under Exclusion, click Add > Browse or add Custom path..

  6. Click Next.

    The Migrate To This Server page of the configuration wizard appears.

  7. Click Add.
