Application-aware backup for Active Directory fails with error "Mount Volumes failed : [Failed to mount volumes from snap Devices]"

Anapplication-aware backup for Active Directory fails when using a File System Agent that was upgraded from Commvault Version 9.

Symptom

An application-aware backup for Active Directory using the Virtual Server Agent starts the IntelliSnap backup of a virtual domain controller, but the IntelliSnap backup job fails during the snap catalog phase. The backup job goes Pending and the Job Controller displays the following error message:

Error Code: [32:392]
Description: Mount Volumes failed : [Failed to mount volumes from snap Devices]

Cause

This issue occurs when the virtual domain controller for Active Directory uses a File System Agent that was upgraded from Commvault Version 9.

The upgrade does not enable Indexing Version 2 on the File System Agent, which causes the application-aware backup to fail.

Resolution

  1. Upgrade the File System Agent to Indexing Version 2. See Upgrading Clients to Indexing Version 2.

  2. Run the application-aware backup again.
