Excluding VMware Placeholder VMs From Backups

You can exclude placeholder VMs that are created by the VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) from backups.

VMware SRM creates and manages VMs that are used as disaster recovery placeholders on the vCenter. These VMs have snapshot creation disabled and should be excluded from the backup content in Commvault. If these placeholder VMs are the only backup content in a job, the backup jobs fails. If the placeholder VM is part of a backup job along with other VMs, the backup job for the placeholder VM fails, but the rest of the job completes successfully.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtualization.

    The Virtual machines page appears.
