New Features for Databases in Commvault Platform Release 2024

Linux Access Node Support for Azure SQL and Azure SQL Managed Instances

You can use an access node that has a Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system to back up and restore Azure SQL and Azure SQL managed instances.

For more information, see the following:

Back Up and Restore Google Cloud BigQuery

You can back up and restore Google Cloud BigQuery projects.

You can perform the following operations:

  • Make a full backup

  • Restore an entire project

  • Restore a dataset or an individual table to the same project from which it was backed up from

  • Restore an entire project to a different project

  • Restore a dataset or an individual table to a different project

For more information, see Google Cloud BigQuery.

Enhancements for MongoDB Big Data Protection

Commvault protects big data file systems and applications using the MongoDB Big Data agent. Restoring data has become simplified with the following enhancements:

  • Encrypted databases:

    • You can protect and restore MongoDB replica set clusters that have encrypted databases using a local key file mechanism.
  • Restore an entire MongoDB cluster to its current location (in place):

    • Automatically configure authentication, TLS/SSL, mongos, and mongod settings based on the source cluster configuration.
  • Restoring a MongoDB cluster to a different cluster (out of place):

    • Automatically configure authentication, TLS/SSL, mongos, and mongod settings based on the destination cluster configuration.

    • After performing a Discover operation on the destination cluster, the restore clients, data paths, and ports will be automatically selected during the out-of-place restore.

For more information, see the following:

Disk Caching of SQL Log Backups Using Secure Data Transfer for SQL Server on Linux and Windows

You can use disk caching for frequent SQL Server log backups on both Windows and Linux SQL servers. The log dumps are encrypted and transported using a Secure Data Transfer (SDT) pipeline which does not require the CommServe services to always be active. The system caches the required pipeline details and reuses them for subsequent log backups. In addition, Dataserver-IP ports do not have to be opened for SQL Server environments. You can use both local and cloud libraries.

Protect AWS Services in the Israel (Tel Aviv) Region

Commvault protects supported AWS services in the Israel (Tel Aviv) Region, also known as il-central-1. Commvault Cloud provides backup and recovery and autonomous recovery (formerly called Disaster Recovery) for a broad range of AWS compute, containers, database, and storage workloads.

For more information, see the following:

Azure Application-Consistent Replicas in a Different Region for Oracle, SAP HANA, and SAP on Oracle

You can make a replica copy of an Azure snapshot in a region other than the source region. The replica copy is an application-consistent snapshot copy that is created in a different region for disaster recovery purposes. This copy reduces your risk of Azure region-level failures or outages and allows you to choose regions abiding by data sovereignty laws. You can use the replica copy to restore data to another client that is in the destination region of the replica copy.

You can make replica copies for the following workloads:

  • Oracle
  • SAP HANA
  • SAP on Oracle

For more information, see the following:

Clone an Oracle PDB from a Snapshot Backup

Using the PDB clone method, you can restore an Oracle pluggable database (PDB) out-of-place from a snapshot backup.

For more information, see the following:
