Required Information for File System Data Sources

When selecting a server as a data source, the amount of information that you are required to enter depends on the status of the file server and whether the data is protected or not protected.

Gather the information that applies to the status of the filer server used as the data source:

Content indexing enabled

A file system agent is installed on the server, and content indexing is enabled.

You can choose content indexed data or unprotected local data as the data source.

  • If the data is content indexed: Country where the server is located.

  • If the data is unprotected:

    • Country where the server is located.

    • Directory path to the data on the server you want to analyze.

Agent installed

A file system agent is installed on the server, and content indexing is not enabled.

You can choose backed up data (if backup jobs were run) or unprotected local data as the data source.

  • If the data is backed up: Country where the server is located.

  • If data is unprotected:

    • Country where the server is located.

    • Directory path to the data on the server you want to analyze.

Agent not installed

A file system agent is not installed on the server, so the data is unprotected.

You can add a UNC path or an NFS export as the data source.

  • Country where the server is located.

  • Path to the data you want to analyze.

  • User name and password with full read and write access on the path or export.
