Restoring an Exchange Database to a Different Disk location

You can restore a database to a physically different location on a disk (that is, a non-Exchange location), and you can choose whether to replay the logs.

Note

You can perform the restore operation on a default subclient or a user-defined subclient that was backed up at least one time.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Applications > Exchange.

    The Exchange page appears.

  2. Click an Exchange database.

    The Exchange Database page appears.

  3. From the Subclients section, use one of the following methods to perform a restore operation:

    • In the Actions column for the subclient, click the action button action_button, and then click Restore database.

    • Click a subclient that you want to restore, and then, on the subclient page, click Restore database.

    The Backup content page appears.

  4. Click Microsoft Information Store.

  5. From the upper-right of the page, select a backup to restore:

    • To use the most recent backup, click Show latest backups.

    • To use a backup from a specific date, click Show backups as of a specific date, select a date, and then select the backup.

    • To use a backup from a date range, click Show backups for a date range, select a date range, and then select the backup.

  6. Select the databases that you want to restore, and then click Restore.

The Restore options dialog box appears.

  7. Specify how you want to restore the data:

    • Destination host: To restore data on the destination server, select a location.

    • Restore to: To perform a restore operation on a different location, select Out of place file location.

    • Without Recovery: If you do not want to replay logs after the restore operation, select this check box.

    • Source DB: For each source database that you selected to restore, click Browse to select a restore location.

  8. Click Submit.
