Restoring Guest Files and Folders for Citrix Hypervisor (XenServer)

You can restore files and folders from a backup of a Citrix Hypervisor (XenServer) VM to a VSA proxy.

When you restore files from a Linux VM, the file recovery enabler specified for the hypervisor is used to recover files.

Before You Begin

• If a passkey is configured for restores, you must have the passkey.
• If you want to restore data using a specific MediaAgent and/or copy, review the information in MediaAgent and Copy Precedence Considerations for Virtualization Restores.

Go to the VM Group

1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtualization.

   The Virtual machines page appears.

2. On the VM groups tab, click the VM group.

   The VM group page appears.

Restore Guest Files

1. On the Overview tab, in the Recovery points section, click a date in the calendar that you want to restore for, and then click Restore. If there are multiple backups for same date, select the desired time of the backup, located below the calendar.

   The Select restore type page appears.

2. Click Guest files to restore files or folders to the source VM or another VM.

   The Guest files page appears.

3. To select a different MediaAgent or source copy for the restore, do the following:

   1. In the upper-right corner of the page, click the Settings icon.

      The Settings dialog box appears.

   2. For MediaAgent, decide whether to have the system automatically select the MediaAgent or to specify a MediaAgent:

      • Automatic: By default, the Commvault software selects the MediaAgent for the restore operation based on availability and environment.

      • To restore data using a specific MediaAgent, from the list, select a MediaAgent.

   3. For Source, decide whether to have the system automatically select the copy of backup data or to specify the copy:

      • Automatic: By default, the restore operation searches for the requested data in the primary copy and selects a different copy if the data is not found in the primary copy.

      • To restore from a specific copy of backup data, from the list, select a backup copy.

   4. Click OK.

4. In the left pane, expand the list, and then in the right pane, select the objects you want to restore as follows:

   • To browse the contents inside an item, under Name, click the item.

   • To return to a higher level of the hierarchy, for data such as files, folders, and disks, above the right pane, in the path list, click an item.

   • In the upper-right area of the page, a message indicates which backup data is displayed. Click the down arrow, and then select any of the following options:

     • Show latest backup: Display data only for the most recent backups.
     • Showing backupsas of a specific date: Display data only up to the date you specify.
     • Show backup for a date range: Display data only within the date range you specify.

5. Click Restore.

   The Restore options dialog box appears.

   Provide the following information:

   • Destination client: Select the VSA proxy to be used for the restore.

   • Impersonate user: Move this toggle switch to the right to specify a different user for the restore operation, and then enter user credentials in the User Name and Password fields that appear.

   • Destination path: Enter or browse to the location where the file or folder will be restored.

     A file or folder can be restored to an NFS-mounted file system (UNIX). Clients with NFS mounted to another machine can restore to that mount. Click the Browse button to see if the mount is visible.

   • Unconditionally overwrite if it already exists: Move this toggle switch to the right to overwrite source files or folders with the same names.

   • Restore: Select one or both of the following options:

     • ACLs: Restore permissions from the backup and apply them to the files specified for the restore.
     • Data: Restore files and folders with the default permissions for the destination path.

6. Click Submit.
