From the Command Center, you can retire a laptop to release the software license, uninstall the Commvault software, and then delete it from the Commvault system.

Alternatively, you can retire a laptop manually by uninstalling the Commvault laptop package from the laptop.

After a laptop is retired, you can restore data from it for 90 days.
Caution
You cannot undo the retirement action. To add the laptop to the Commvault system again, you must add it back as a new laptop.
Before You Begin
To retire a laptop, you must have the Delete permission for the laptop client. For more information, see Permissions by Feature - Client.
Procedure

From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Laptops.

For the laptop that you want to retire, click the action button , and then click Retire.
The Confirm retire client dialog box appears.

Click Yes.

If no backed-up data for the laptop exists, then the license for the laptop is released. If the laptop is available on the network, then the system also uninstalls the Commvault software from the laptop.

If backed-up data for the laptop exists, then you must perform the following steps to delete the laptop from the database:

For the laptop that you want to delete, click the action button , and then click Delete.
The Confirm delete client dialog box appears.

Click Yes.
The license for the laptop is released. If the laptop is available on the network, then the system also uninstalls the Commvault software from the laptop. In addition, the laptop is permanently deleted from the database.

You can restore data from the retired laptop for 90 days.

If the laptop is not available on the network, then it is not deleted from the CommServe database. You must manually uninstall the Commvault software from the laptop.

If there are multiple agents installed on a laptop, then the laptop is not deleted from the CommServe database. However, if the agent that you retired is the only agent installed on the laptop, then the laptop is deleted from the CommServe database.
