Adding a Node to the Index Server

Applies to: File Storage Optimization, File System Content Indexing, Office 365, Sensitive Data Governance, Virtual Machine File Indexing

You can add a node to an existing Index Server. After you add a node, new clients that are added to a solution are distributed across all the nodes. For example, if a new Exchange client is added, the client uses all the available Index Server nodes.

Before You Begin

Install the Index Store package on the servers that will act as nodes for the Index Server. A server can act as a node for only one Index Server.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Manage > Infrastructure.

    The Infrastructure page appears.

  2. Click the Index servers tile.

    The Index servers page appears.

  3. In the Name column, click the Index Server.

The Index Server properties page appears.

  4. On the Overview tab, in the Nodes section, click Add.

The Add node dialog box appears.

  5. From the Nodes list, select the server to add as a node on the Index Server.

  6. In the Index directory box, enter a path for the index directory.

  7. For Memory allocation (MB), click Edit edit button outline grey/gray pencil and specify the memory for the node.

    Note

By default, the value is set to half the memory of the node computer with a minimum of 4GB and a maximum of 32GB.

  8. To change the predefined network port that the nodes use to communicate with other Commvault services, in the Port box, enter the port number.

The default port is 20000. You can use any port number from 20000 to 65535.

  9. To prevent automatic load balancing after the node is added, under Load balancing, clear the Run load balancing after node is added check box.

  10. Click Save.

If the status of the newly added node on an existing index server is displayed as Not configured, then you can reconfigure the node by clicking Reconfigure from the Actions menu.
