You can create an on-demand instance to perform Oracle RAC database backup operations for a specific purpose. These backup operations are run on an "as needed" basis. Use customized RMAN scripts to run backup operations for on-demand instances.
When you create an on-demand instance, a default subclient is automatically created for that instance.
Note
After you create an on-demand instance, you cannot change it to a traditional instance.
Do not create on-demand instances to run maintenance scripts. Instead, run third-party command line jobs to perform maintenance operations.
Procedure
-
Enable on-demand instance creation for Oracle RAC in the CommCell Console if you have not done that yet. For more information, see Enabling Oracle RAC On-Demand Instance Creation in the CommCell Console.
-
From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > All Tasks, and then click New On Demand Instance.
A dialog appears to ask if you are sure you want to create an on-demand instance.
-
Click Yes to confirm the creation of an on-demand instance.
What To Do Next
You can run on-demand backup operations using qoperation commands.
