Basic Configuration
Enabling 1-Touch Backup
After you install the File System iDataAgent, use the following steps to enable 1-Touch for the default subclient.
Note
The Reconcile Backup option is not supported for 1-Touch for AIX.
Procedure
-
From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > Client > File System > defaultBackupSet.
-
Right-click the default subclient and then click Properties.
-
In the Subclient Properties dialog box, click Advanced.
-
In the Advanced Subclient Properties dialog box, click the 1-Touch Recovery tab.
-
Select the 1-Touch Recovery check box.
-
Select the 1-Touch Server from the 1-Touch Server list.
-
Enter the 1-Touch server directory path in the 1-Touch server directory box.
It is recommended to create a dedicated logical volume and mount to the directory that will be used during 1-Touch restore operation. The size of the volume must be at least twice the size of the root volume group (rootvg) of the client that you want to back up. If you want to back up multiple clients, select the largest rootvg among the clients. Create the logical volume outside the rootvg. When using rootvg, create or add the directory name to the file /etc/exclude.rootvg to exclude the folder from MKSYSB backup of the NIM server.
For simultaneous 1-Touch restore operations, the size of the volume must be at least n + 1 x size of the largest rootvg.
where n is the number of simultaneous 1-Touch restore operations.
-
Click OK.
Performing a Backup
After you enable 1-Touch, perform backups of the default subclient periodically to capture any changes in the client system configuration. Before recovering a client, ensure that you have run at least one full backup of the default subclient.
Before You Begin
You must configure the NIM master and the NIM client prior to performing a 1-Touch backup. For more information, see http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=isg3T1010383.
Procedure
-
From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > Client > File System > defaultBackupSet.
-
Right-click the default subclient and then click Backup.
-
In the Backup Options dialog box, click Immediate.
-
Click OK to initiate the backup job.
You can monitor the progress of the backup job in the Job Controller window of the CommCell Console.
Advanced Configuration
Perform Backup for AIX WPAR client
For AIX 6.1 clients that have a System Workload Partitioning (WPAR) environment installed on the root volume, the WPAR environment creates a file system. This file system has a mount option that is set to false by default. Before performing a full backup, set this option to true to enable 1-Touch for AIX backups.
NIM Master Server Configuration
-
Ensure that the 1-Touch Recovery Server is a dedicated AIX machine and it is running the NIM master server environment.
-
Verify that the NIM master server and the CommServe names are resolved correctly using /etc/hosts or bind.
Configuring an Alternate NIM Master for 1-Touch Backup
Procedure
-
Configure an AIX computer as an alternate NIM master. For instructions, see http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=isg3T1012143.
-
Register the client computer on both the primary and alternate NIM master computers. For instructions, see http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=isg3T1010383.
-
On the client computer, update the /etc/niminfo file with the following information:
-
NIM_MASTER_HOSTNAME = primary_1-Touch_server_name
-
NIM_ALTERNATE_MASTER = alternate_1-Touch_server_name
-
-
Set the UseAlternateNIMMaster additional setting to 1 on the client computer. For instructions on adding the additional setting, see Add or Modify an Additional Setting.
What To Do Next
The client computer will detect the alternate NIM master when you run your 1-Touch backup. See the "Performing a Backup" section on this page.
