When you are unable to uninstall a component using the common procedures, you can use the Release a License feature to clean up these components from the CommServe database. This operation, previously known as deconfiguration, does not remove the backup data and registry entries relevant to the component from the host computer. As such, the data is still available for data recovery operations.
Note
It is always recommended that you uninstall components. Releasing a license should be used only when you are unable to uninstall a component.
You can also use this feature when you no longer require a license on a client computer, such as cases where the computer is being retired. The released license can be used later for another computer.
On the other hand, a component whose license was released can be reconfigured. This operation re-enables (or consumes) the license for the deconfigured component.
Deconfiguration Sequence
Deconfigure operations vary based on the targeted CommCell entities.
When deconfiguring a client computer with multiple applications, you must take into account that all Agents installed on the client must be first deconfigured. For this reason, we recommend that you use the following deconfiguration sequence:

Application-related Agents (Backup and Recovery Agents, Archiver Agents, ContinuousDataReplicator, and so on)

For NDMP Agents, the sequence shown above does not apply. The license for a NAS client can be released without reference to other components.
