FlexFrame infrastructure provides an integrated solution to run complex software solutions with higher reliability and efficiency. It also provides a cluster environment using the FlexFrame Autonomous (FA) Agents for service monitoring and automatic failover without using cluster software.
Key features of FlexFrame infrastructure include the following:

A shared operating system booted over IP networks for the software servers.

Decoupling of application software and operating system, called virtualization of the software.

FlexFrame has a mechanism for high-availability without any cluster software. FlexFrame does not have a cluster in the classical sense (with quorum disks and/or heartbeat links). However, it has special agents called FlexFrame Autonomous Agents which allow for service monitoring and automatic failover.
Database application services are assigned a virtual IP address and a virtual hostname which are switched to another node along with the services. Switching the service can happen via a failover or as a manual maintenance activity. Therefore, the databases are configured to run (as FlexFrame services) as virtual clients. It is the same configuration as in a real cluster environment.
Commvault provides a simplified end-to-end backup and recovery solution to protect the software database in a FlexFrame infrastructure. In this environment, each database is configured as a virtual client, thus enabling services to be switched to another node through failover.
