Maintenance failovers can be used to temporarily halt all activities except restores in the CommCell. Use the following steps to perform maintenance related activities without completely shutting down the CommServe server. For example, to install platform releases on the production CommServe host.
Notes
- If necessary, you can also directly install the platform release on the production CommServe host (Step 2), if you can plan some downtime for the production CommServe host.
- If the CSLiveSync Automatic Failover option is enabled on the environment, disable Automatic Failover before directly installing Platform Release on the production CommServe host. Once Platform Release installation is completed, you can enable Automatic Failover.
For instructions to disable or enable Automatic Failovers, see Enabling Automatic Failovers.
Step 1: Initiate a Maintenance Failover
Set the CommServe server on restore-only mode by performing a maintenance failover to the standby CommServe host. For more information on performing a maintenance failover, see Initiating Maintenance Failovers.
Step 2: Install the Platform Release On the Production CommServe Host
Install the platform release on the Production CommServe host. For more information on installing platform releases on the production CommServe hosts, see Installing a Platform Release on the Production CommServe During a Maintenance Failover.
Step 3: Reset Maintenance Failovers
Switch CommCell operations back to the production CommServe host by resetting the maintenance failover. For more information on resetting the maintenance failover, see Resetting Maintenance Failovers.
Step 4: Install the Platform Release On the Standby CommServe Host and SQL Clients
Install the platform release on the Standby CommServe Hosts and SQL Clients. For more information on installing the service pack, see Installing Service Packs On the Standby CommServe Host and SQL Clients.
