You can use the Virtual Server Agent to back up and recover Azure virtual machines. You can quickly back up large numbers of virtual machines, perform multiple backups daily, and recover full instances. The Virtual Server Agent automatically creates array entries using the naming convention AzureRM-VSA-<ClientID>-<ClientName>.
With IntelliSnap support for Microsoft Azure, you can:
-
Perform full and incremental snap backups of virtual machines.
-
Perform backup copy jobs from snap backups.
-
Perform backup copy jobs with Changed Block Tracking (CBT).
-
Perform full VM restores from snap backups, and full VM and file level restores (using Live Browse) from backup copy jobs.
Commvault data protection operations are managed through the CommCell Console. Use the CommCell Console to configure a virtualization client and other entities that are used to support operations.
A virtualization client is the access point for an Azure subscription. You must define a virtualization client for each Azure subscription.
When you create a virtualization client, the Commvault software automatically creates an Azure instance, a backup set, and a default subclient that can be used to protect all virtual machines. You can create additional subclients to perform separate protection operations for different groups of virtual machines. For example, you can create a different subclient for different guest operating systems, and use the default subclient to protect any remaining virtual machines that are not covered by user-defined subclients.
Both streaming and IntelliSnap backups are supported. You can perform full, incremental snap backups and backup copy jobs of virtual machines.
