Mounting a Snapshot

Does Not Apply: Virtual Server Agent for VMware

To access the data backed up in the snapshot, you need to mount the snapshot.

Caution

For Windows-based agents, select Protect Snapshot during mount to ensure that the changes made to the snapshot while it is mounted are not retained when you unmount the snapshot. By selecting this option, the snapshot is usable for future snapshot operations (restore, backup copy, etc.). If this option is disabled, changes made to the snapshot while it is mounted are retained after the snapshot is unmounted. As a result, you cannot use the snapshot for snap operations.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers >client> agent.

  2. Right-click the appropriate backupset, subclient, or instance, and then click List Snapshots.

The Snapshots created during IntelliSnap operation dialog box appears.

  3. Right-click a snapshot, and then click Mount.

    Tip

To select multiple snapshots, hold <Shift> key, and then select the snapshots to be mounted. In the Mount or UnMount dialog box, click Yes.

The Mount Path dialog box appears.

  4. In the Destination Client box, type the destination client.

  5. In the Destination Path box, type a one of the following, and then, click OK.

    • For Oracle ASM snapshots on a MediaAgent, type the ASM diskgroup name to be used for the snapshot, for example, "+ASMSNAP".

    • On a Windows platform, type the share name for the agent.

    • For all other agents, type the destination path on the client.

  6. If you do not want to save any changes made to the mounted snapshot after the snapshot is unmounted, select Protect Snapshot during mount.

    Caution

If you do not select Protect Snapshot during mount, the changes made to the snapshot when it is mounted will be retained after the snapshot is unmounted and the snapshot can no longer be used for restore.

  7. Click OK.

Result

The mount operation creates a read-only copy of the snapshot.
