Removable Disk Drives (e.g., Quantum GoVault, ProStor RDX, Dell RD1000, etc.) can be configured as stand-alone drives. All operations supported by stand-alone drives are supported by such devices. Removable disks are drive enclosure devices that retain a persistent drive letter in the Operating System, regardless of whether or not a disk media is loaded into the enclosure (similar to the behavior of floppy drives.).
