Restoring the Sybase Server

When the Sybase server is corrupt or lost, you can restore the whole server (both user databases and system databases), and then recover it from the latest full backup. Each database would be restored from their latest backup.

You can also revert the database to a specific point-in-time. For more information, see Restoring Sybase Databases to a Point-in-Time.

Before You Begin

  1. Place the Sybase ASE dataserver offline.

  2. Verify that the Sybase backup server is running.

  3. Set the "max memory" parameter to the source server required value. If the source server does not startup because of memory issues, you need to adjust the value. For more information, go to the Sybase website, How much memory to configure.

  4. Create the RUN_<SERVER-NAME> file if it does not exist on the server in the $SYBASE/$SYBASE_ASE/install directory. Set the master device path to the same as the source when you restore to the source, or the value that you enter in the CommCell Console for a new destination. For information on how to create the file, go to the Sybase website, The runserver file.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > Sybase.

  2. Right-click the instance, point to All Tasks and then click Restore Sybase Server.

    The Sybase Restore dialog box is displayed.

  3. On the General tab, select the Sybase Create Devices check box.

  4. Click OK to start the restore.

Before You Begin

  5. If you have the "net password encryption reqd" Sybase server parameter set to 1 or 2, then perform the following actions:

    1. Verify that the Sybase ocs.cfg file exists.

    2. Edit the ocs.cfg file and add the following lines:

CS_SEC_ENCRYPTION = CS_TRUE
CS_SEC_EXTENDED_ENCRYPTION = CS_TRUE

CS_SEC_ENCRYPTION = CS_TRUE
CS_SEC_EXTENDED_ENCRYPTION = CS_TRUE

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > Sybase.

  2. Right-click the instance, point to All Tasks and then click Restore Sybase Server.

    The Sybase Restore dialog box is displayed.

  3. On the General tab, select the Sybase Create Devices check box.

  4. Click OK to start the restore.
