Add Additional Protocol for Backups

To perform backups of a Dell EMC Isilon/Powerscale file server via different protocols, add the additional protocols— CIFS, NFS, or NDMP.

Start the Configuration Wizard

1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Files.

   The Overview page appears.

2. Go to the Files tab, and then click the file server.

   The file server page appears.

3. On the upper-right area of the page, click Add protocol.

   The Add protocol page appears.

4. In the Host name box, enter the fully qualified hostname or IP address for the access node.

5. Click Next.

   The Plan page appears.

Plan

1. From the Plan list, select the backup plan to use for the file server.

   Steps to create a new backup plan

   1. Click the add button .

      The Create backup plan dialog box appears.

   2. In the Plan name, enter a name for the backup plan.

   3. If you have an active Files and Objects subscription, from the Storage list, select the storage to use for the backups.

   4. If you have an active AGP bundle for File and Object subscription:

      • From the Storage region list, select the storage region to use for the backups.

      • From the MediaAgent list, select the deduplication database (DDB) Backup Gateway to use for the backups.

   5. If you have both the above subscriptions:

      1. To use regular storage for backups, move the Bring your own storage toggle to the right, and then select the Storage to use for the backups.

      2. To use AGP bundled storage, leave the Bring your own storage toggle disabled.

         • From the Storage region list, select the storage region to use for the backups.

         • From the MediaAgent list, select the deduplication database (DDB) Backup Gateway to use for the backups.

   6. For the backup plan settings, select pre-defined settings or create custom settings:

      • To select pre-defined settings, under Retention rules, select one of the following:

        • Select Standard retention to retain the incremental backups for 1 month.

      • To create custom settings, move the Custom plan toggle key to the right, and then specify the following:

        • For Retention, specify the amount of time to retain the backup jobs.

        • For Backups run every, specify how often to run backups.

   7. Click Done.

2. Click Next.

   The Backup Content page appears.

Backup Content

1. For the backup protocol that you want to enable, move the toggle key to the right.

2. To enable CIFS shares backups, do the following:

   1. Under Network share configuration, move the CIFS toggle key to the right.

   2. From the Access nodes list, select one or more access node groups or access nodes that will be used to protect the Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale file server. You can back up CIFS shares of the Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale file server using Windows as well as Linux access nodes.

      An access node is a machine with Commvault Cloud software installed to manage communication to and from the protected system. To access your Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale file server via CIFS, the access node(s) requires the Windows File System software.

      If you do not have an existing access node that can be used to protect your Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale file server, create a new one.

      Steps to create an access node

      1. Click the add button .

      The Add a new Access node dialog box appears.

      1. Download the backup gateway package and install it on your access node.

      2. Install the access node and authenticate using the authcode provided in the instructions.

   3. From the Credentials list, select existing credentials or create new credentials that will be used to access the CIFS shares.

      You must configure CIFS credentials to change the backup content.

      Steps to add new credentials

      To add credentials to the Credential Manager, click the plus button (+), and then specify the following in the Add Credential dialog box.

      1. In the Credential name box, enter the name of the credential.

      2. In the User account box, enter the name of the user account.

      3. In the Password box, enter the password.

      4. In the Description box, you can enter a description of the credentials.

      5. Click Save.

   4. By default, all CIFS shares will be selected for backup. To modify the backup content, move the All CIFS shares toggle key to the left and follow these steps:

      1. To add the content to back up, in the Content area, click Add > Browse or Custom path.

      2. To enter paths to items you want to include in backups, in the Enter custom path field, enter a path, and then click the add button.

      3. To select items from a file system view of the server, click Browse, and then select the check boxes for the items that you want to include in backups.

   5. To add filters to exclude items from backups, in the Exclusions area, click Add > Browse or Custom path.

      • To enter paths to items you want to exclude from backups, in the Enter custom path field, enter a filter pattern, and then click the add button.

      • To select items from a file system view of the server, click Browse, and then select the check boxes for the items that you want to exclude from backups.

   6. From the Include global exclusions list, select one the following:

      • Off: To disable global filters for this subclient; only subclient exclusions are applied. This value overrides the Use Global Filters on All Subclients global filters setting.

      • On: To enable global filters for this subclient; both global and subclient exclusions are applied. This value overrides the Use Global Filters on All Subclients global filters setting.

      • Use cell level policy: To include global filters for this subclient only if the Use Global Filters on All Subclients option is selected in the Global Filters.

3. To enable NFS exports backups, do the following:

   1. Under Network share configuration, move the NDMP toggle key to the right.

   2. From the Access nodes list, select one or more access node groups or access nodes that will be used to protect the Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale file server.

      An access node is a machine with Commvault Cloud software installed to manage communication to and from the protected system. To access your Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale file server via NFS, the access node(s) requires the Linux File System software.

      If you do not have an existing access node that can be used to protect your Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale file server, create a new one.

      Steps to create an access node

      1. Click the add button .

      The Add a new Access node dialog box appears.

      1. Download the backup gateway package and install it on your access node.

      2. Install the access node and authenticate using the authcode provided in the instructions.

   3. By default, all NFS exports will be selected for backup. To modify the backup content, move the All NFS exports toggle key to the left and follow these steps:

      1. To add the content to back up, in the Content area, click Add > Browse or Custom path.

      2. To enter paths to items you want to include in backups, in the Enter custom path field, enter a path, and then click the add button.

      3. To select items from a file system view of the server, click Browse, and then select the check boxes for the items that you want to include in backups.

   4. To add filters to exclude items from backups, in the Exclusions area, click Add > Browse or Custom path.

      • To enter paths to items you want to exclude from backups, in the Enter custom path field, enter a filter pattern, and then click the add button.

      • To select items from a file system view of the server, click Browse, and then select the check boxes for the items that you want to exclude from backups.

   5. From the Include global exclusions list, select one the following:

      • Off: To disable global filters for this subclient; only subclient exclusions are applied. This value overrides the Use Global Filters on All Subclients global filters setting.

      • On: To enable global filters for this subclient; both global and subclient exclusions are applied. This value overrides the Use Global Filters on All Subclients global filters setting.

      • Use cell level policy: To include global filters for this subclient only if the Use Global Filters on All Subclients option is selected in the Global Filters.

4. To enable NDMP backups, do the following:

   1. Under NDMP configuration, move the NDMP toggle key to the right.

   2. From the Access Nodes list, select the access nodes to use for the file server or add a new one.

      Note

      • Make sure to select an access node which has both FS and MA packages installed.

      • If a client group is selected as an access node, make sure that each client in the group has connectivity to the array.

      Steps to create an access node

      1. Click the add button .

      The Add a new Access node dialog box appears.

      1. Download the backup gateway package and install it on your access node.

      2. Install the access node and authenticate using the authcode provided in the instructions.

   3. From the Credential list, select existing credentials or create new credentials to access the Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale server.

      Steps to add new credentials

      To add credentials to the Credential Manager, click the plus button (+), and then specify the following in the Add Credential dialog box.

      1. In the Credential name box, enter the name of the credential.

      2. In the Username box, enter the name of the user account.

      3. In the Password box, enter the password.

      4. In the Description box, you can enter a description of the credentials.

      5. Click SAVE.

   4. To assign a different listen port, in the Listen port box, enter a port number.

      The default value for the listen port is the default computer port socket number assignment.

   5. To confirm that the system can connect to the Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale server, click Preview.

   6. By default, all volumes will be selected for backup. To change the content that is to be backed up, do the following:

      The NDMP credentials must be added to change the backup content.

      1. Under Backup content, move the All Volumes toggle to the left, and then specify the content to back up.

      2. To add the content to back up, in the Content area, click Add > Browse or Custom path.

      3. To enter paths to items you want to include in backups, in the Enter custom path field, enter a path, and then click the add button.

      4. To select items from a file system view of the server, click Browse, and then select the check boxes for the items that you want to include in backups.

   7. To add filters to exclude items from backups, in the Exclusions area, click Add > Browse or Custom path.

      • To enter paths to items you want to exclude from backups, in the Enter custom path field, enter a filter pattern, and then click the add button.

      • To select items from a file system view of the server, click Browse, and then select the check boxes for the items that you want to exclude from backups.

   8. From the Include global exclusions list, select one the following:

      • Off: To disable global filters for this subclient; only subclient exclusions are applied. This value overrides the Use Global Filters on All Subclients global filters setting.

      • On: To enable global filters for this subclient; both global and subclient exclusions are applied. This value overrides the Use Global Filters on All Subclients global filters setting.

      • Use cell level policy: To include global filters for this subclient only if the Use Global Filters on All Subclients option is selected in the Global Filters.

   9. To verify the connection between the array and access node, click Test connection.

5. Click Add.
