You can add a CIFS or NFS network share to a NAS client by adding an existing Windows File System Agent or UNIX File System Agent to the NAS client.
Before You Begin
You must have a Windows or UNIX client configured in your CommCell environment.
Start the Configuration Wizard

From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Files.
The file servers Overview page appears.

On the Files tab, in the Name column, click the NAS server.
The NAS server properties page appears.
-
In the upper-right corner of the page, click the Add protocol.
The Plan page of the Add protocol configuration wizard appears.
Plan
-
From the Plan list, select the backup plan to use for the file server.
Steps to create a new backup plan
-
Click the add button
.The Create backup plan dialog box appears.
-
In the Plan name, enter a name for the backup plan.
-
If you have an active Files and Objects subscription, from the Storage list, select the storage to use for the backups.
-
If you have an active AGP bundle for File and Object subscription:
-
From the Storage region list, select the storage region to use for the backups.
-
From the MediaAgent list, select the deduplication database (DDB) MediaAgent to use for the backups.
-
-
If you have both the above subscriptions:
-
To use regular storage for backups, move the Bring your own storage toggle to the right, and then select the Storage to use for the backups.
-
To use AGP bundled storage, leave the Bring your own storage toggle disabled.
-
From the Storage region list, select the storage region to use for the backups.
-
From the MediaAgent list, select the deduplication database (DDB) MediaAgent to use for the backups.

For the backup plan settings, select pre-defined settings or create custom settings:
-
To select pre-defined settings, under Retention rules, select one of the following:
- Select Standard retention to retain the incremental backups for 1 month.

To create custom settings, move the Custom plan toggle key to the right, and then specify the following:

For Retention, specify the amount of time to retain the backup jobs.
-
For Backups run every, specify how often to run backups.

Click Done.

Select Next.
The Backup Content page of the configuration wizard appears.
Backup Content

Under Network share configuration, specify how you want to back up the file server:
-
To back up CIFS shares, move the CIFS toggle key to the right.
-
To back up NFS exports, move the NFS toggle key to the right.

From the Access Nodes list, select the access nodes to use for the file server or create a new one. You can back up CIFS shares of the NAS file server using Windows as well as Linux access nodes.
Note

The Linux access nodes that are chosen to backup CIFS shares must be on Service Pack 36.

For streaming, CIFS backup using Linux access nodes is supported only with NetApp, Dell EMC Isilon, and Generic vendor types. For other vendors, ensure that a Windows access node is selected. It is not supported with IntelliSnap.

Ensure to select an access node which has both FS and MA packages installed.
-
If a client group is selected as an access node, ensure that each client in the group has connectivity to the array.
Steps to create an access node

Click the add button
.The Add a new Access node dialog box appears.
-
Download the backup gateway package and install it on your access node.
-
Install the access node and authenticate using the authcode provided in the instructions.
-

From the CIFS Credentials list, select existing credentials or create new credentials to access the NAS server.
Steps to add new credentials
To add credentials to the Credential Manager, click the plus button (+), and then specify the following in the Add Credential dialog box.

In the Credential name box, enter the name of the credential.
-
In the User account box, enter the name of the user account.
-
In the Password box, enter the password.
-
In the Description box, you can enter a description of the credentials.
-
Click Save.

By default, all CIFS share will be selected for backup. To change the content that is to be backed up, do the following:

The CIFS credentials must be added to change the backup content.

Under Backup content, move the All CIFS shares toggle to the left, and then specify the content to back up.

To add the content to back up, in the Content area, click Add > Browse or Custom path.

To enter paths to items you want to include in backups, in the Enter custom path field, enter a path, and then click the add
button. -
To select items from a file system view of the server, do the following:

Click Browse.
The Browse Options dialog box appears.

In the Interface path box, provide the path details to browse the data.
-
From the Access nodes list, select the access node, and then click Browse.
The Add content dialog box appears.
-
Select the check boxes for the items that you want to include in the backup and then click Save.

To add filters to exclude items from backups, in the Exclusions area, click Add > Browse or Custom path.

To enter paths to items you want to exclude from backups, in the Enter custom path field, enter a filter pattern, and then click the add
button. -
To select items from a file system view of the server, do the following:

Click Browse.
The Browse Options dialog box appears.

In the Interface path box, provide the path details to browse the data to exclude.

From the Access nodes list, select the access node, and then click Browse.
The Add exclusions dialog box appears.

Select the check boxes for the items that you want to exclude in the backup and then click Save.

You can add the exceptions on the excluded data. To do so, move the Define exceptions toggle key to the right, and then click Add > Browse or Custom path.

Off: To disable global filters for this subclient; only subclient exclusions are applied. This value overrides the Use Global Filters on All Subclients global filters setting.

On: To enable global filters for this subclient; both global and subclient exclusions are applied. This value overrides the Use Global Filters on All Subclients global filters setting.

Use cell level policy: To include global filters for this subclient only if the Use Global Filters on All Subclients option is selected in the Global Filters.

To verify the connection between the array and access node, click Test connection. This option applies only to NetApp, Dell EMC Isilon, and Huawei.
NFS

To specify the access nodes to use for the file server, from the Access Nodes list, select the access nodes or create a new one.

Ensure to select an access node which has both FS and MA packages installed.
