Adding Cloud Storage

You can configure a new cloud storage in the Metallic console. You can configure the cloud service provider, storage class, region, authentication, and Backup Gateway settings.

The number of partitions created is determined by the number of DDB Backup Gateways selected during configuration:

  • 1 Backup Gateway selected

    • Two partitions are created on the single Backup Gateway.
  • 2 Backup Gateways selected

    • Two partitions are created on each Backup Gateway, for a total of four partitions.
  • 3 to 6 Backup Gateways selected

    • A total of six partitions are created and distributed evenly across the selected Backup Gateways.
  • More than 6 Backup Gateways selected

    • The first six Backup Gateways are used to create the six partitions.

    • The remaining Backup Gateways are assigned the Deduplication Database (DDB) role only.

The software automatically assigns the deduplication database (DDB) path on the Backup Gateway without requiring user input.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, click Storage > Cloud.

    The Cloud page appears.

  2. In the upper right of the page, click Add to add a cloud storage.

The Add cloud storage page appears.

  3. From the Type list, select the cloud service provider.

  4. In the Name box, enter a unique name for the cloud storage.

  5. From the Storage Class list, select the appropriate storage class.

  6. From the Region list, select the region where the storage account is located.

  7. In the Service Host box, type the name of the cloud server host.

For some cloud service providers, the Service Host box is populated with the default value for that cloud service provider.

  8. From the MediaAgent list, select the Backup Gateway that will access the cloud storage.

    • Click the + button to add a new Backup Gateway if needed.

    • If you selected a region that has an associated storage resource pool, the MediaAgent field is automatically populated with the Automatic option selected by default.

    • The Automatic option dynamically assigns Backup Gateways from the storage resource pool defined for the selected region.

    • You can override the default behavior by manually selecting one or more Backup Gateways from the list.

  9. From the Authentication list, select the authentication method.

  10. In the Account Name box, enter the name of the cloud storage account.

  11. From the Credentials list, select a pre-defined credential.

Optionally, click the + sign to create a new credential to access the cloud library.

For more information, see Adding Credentials to a Cloud Library.

  12. In the Container or Bucket field (appears based on the cloud vendor selected), enter the container or bucket name where backup data will be stored.

    • Click Detect to verify that the container exists.
  13. Verify that the Use Deduplication toggle is enabled to use deduplication for data stored in the storage.

  14. From the DDB MediaAgent list, select one or more Backup Gateways to use for deduplication.

    • If you selected a region that has an associated storage resource pool, the DDB MediaAgent field is automatically populated with the Automatic option selected by default.

    • The Automatic option dynamically assigns Backup Gateways from the storage resource pool defined for the selected region.

    • You can override the default behavior by manually selecting one or more Backup Gateways from the list.

  15. Click Save.
