Backing Up an Informix Instance

You can perform a full or incremental backup of an Informix instance on demand.

If you want to perform log backups at a greater frequency, and if you use disk library for storage, you can use disk caching of log backups.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Databases.

    The database Overview page appears.

  2. Go to the Instances tab.

  3. In the row for the database instance to backup, click the action button action_button, and then click Back up.

Alternatively, click a instance and select the Backup option from instances overview page.

The Backup options dialog box appears.

  4. For Backup level, select the type of backup that you want to perform:

    • For a full backup, select Full.

    • For an incremental backup, select Incremental.

  5. Click the Edit button associated with Retention option. You can select the following options:

    1. Infinitive

    2. Retention period: Enter a period as per requirement.

  6. Under Tap media options section, you can perform the following actions:

    • When you move Start New Media toggle key to right, consider the following:

      • For an individual job the job will use a new media.

      • For a scheduled job at the backup set level, all jobs that belong to the schedule from that backup set will go to a new media.

      • For a schedule policy, all jobs that run from that schedule policy, will go to a new media.

    • When you move Mark media full on success toggle key to right, the system marks the media as full two minutes after a job completes. If another data protection job is queued or started within that two-minute period, the media will be used by that job. In addition, this option is useful when multiple data protection jobs are triggered simultaneously by a schedule or schedule policy, and the associated data needs to be written to the same media set.

  7. Click Submit.
