Considerations for NetApp Open Replication with SnapMirror Cloud

Review the following limitations and conditions before you use the NetApp SnapMirror Cloud.

  • The Open Replication with SnapMirror Cloud configuration is supported only for NetApp C-Mode arrays configured with the NDMP agent.

  • The NetApp SnapMirror Cloud supports only the Primary-Vault topology. Other topologies like Fan-Out, and Cascade are not supported.

  • Configurations like SVM-DR, Remote Snap MediaAgent, Multisite IntelliSnap and MetroCluster are not supported.

  • Open Replication with SnapMirror Cloud is not supported for the FlexGroup volumes.

Considerations for the NetApp SnapMirror Cloud Copy

  • The NetApp SnapMirror Cloud Target copy can have only the primary snapshot (Snap Primary copy) copy as the source.

  • The NetApp SnapMirror Cloud Target copy cannot be used as source for backup copy or to create a new snapshot copy like vault or mirror copy or for snapshot cataloging operations.

  • When the NetApp SnapMirror Cloud Target copy is associated to a backup plan, you cannot disable the deferred catalog.

  • The source for deferred catalog and the NetApp SnapMirror Cloud Target copy must be same. You cannot change the source for deferred catalog.

If the deferred catalog is already enabled on the backup plan, ensure that the source copy is same as the NetApp SnapMirror Cloud Target copy. Else, the copy creation fails.

  • The System Created Autocopy (Auxiliary Copy) backup plan picks only the NDMP subclients that are cataloged for replication.

    Note

    • Commvault recommends that you associate only the NDMP subclients with backup plan where the NetApp SnapMirror Cloud Target copy is created.

    • The non-NDMP subclients associated with the backup plan are also snapshot cataloged but retained in the primary snapshot copy until retention for the SnapMirror Cloud Target copy is met.

  • The SnapMirror Cloud Target relationship cannot be same across backup plans.

Considerations for Browse and Restore for the SnapMirror Cloud Target Copy

  • The Browse from Snapshot (Live Browse) operation is not supported.

  • Directory restores are not supported.

  • Full volume in-place restores are not supported.

  • Parallel in-place restores are not supported.

  • Out-of-place restores to Windows or Unix clients are not supported.

  • Multiple volume level restores or combination of volume and file restores are not supported.

  • When performing full volume out-of-place restores within same NetApp cluster, only data protection volumes are supported as the restore destination. Ensure that the data protection volume is of same size as the source volume.

  • When performing full volume out-of-place restores to a different NetApp cluster, ensure that sufficient space is available on the aggregate of source storage virtual machine (SVM).

  • When performing an out-of-place restore using NDMP, if the user provides a directory name in the restore path and it doesn't exist, a directory with 644 permission will be created.
