Data Reduction Shared Volumes for Hitachi Vantara Storage Arrays

Data Reduction Shared Volume (DRS-VOL) is a data reduction feature that allows multiple host systems to access and share volumes while providing significant data reduction benefits. It utilizes inline data compression and deduplication techniques to reduce the amount of physical storage space required for storing data.

You can configure the DRS-VOLs using the array software. Using the Commvault Cloud software, you can use these DRS-VOLs to create a replication pair on Hitachi Vantara storage systems.

Considerations

  • The subclient content cannot be a mix of DRS and Non-DRS volumes.

  • For Hitachi Shadow Image (SI), while backing up DRS volumes, ensure that the target (SVOL) is not a Non-DRS volume and vice versa.

  • IntelliSnap supports DRS-VOLs with Hitachi Shadow Image (CCI) and Hitachi Thin Image (CCI) engines only. it does not support DRS-VOLs with Hitachi Targetless Snap (CCI) engine.

  • DRS volumes always use Thin Image Advanced (HTI Advanced) snapshots.

  • For Hitachi Thin Image (CCI) backup, S-VOL pair must be created in the same pool as P-VOL belongs.

  • The Hitachi Shadow Image (CCI) pair created for DRS-Vols doesn't support the quick restore capability. For more information, see Snapshot Configuration Properties for Hitachi Vantara.
