Planning for the protection of Amazon DocumentDB includes verifying that your environment meets the system requirements, reviewing the permission requirements, configuring the instances, and then performing a test backup and a restore.

For access node, you can bring your own access nodes or use hosted infrastructure.

Access nodes: Add a Windows or Linux file server as an access node with Virtual Server and MediaAgent packages installed. For more information on additional server, see Adding an Additional Server.

Hosted infrastructure: Configure the Managed Service Provider (MSP) environment.

Perform your first backup and restore.

Your first full backup is automatically scheduled based on the assigned backup plan. To perform a manual backup, see Backing Up a DocumentDB Cluster Group.

After the backup operation is complete, perform a restore. For more information, see Restoring a DocumentDB Cluster.
