You can configure backups for the following Oracle database environments:
-
Database running on a cloud VM, using Amazon Web Services (AWS)
-
Database running on a cloud VM, using Microsoft Azure
-
Database running on-premises, on a physical client or virtual machine
-
Database running on a cloud VM, using Oracle Cloud. To configure Oracle Cloud, go to Configuring Backups for Oracle Cloud Databases
Default subclient creation
When an instance is discovered or created, the default subclient is automatically created using the following criteria:
-
If the client computer is associated with a plan, that plan is assigned for both data and log backups on the discovered instance and the default subclient.
-
If no plan is assigned at the client level, the system uses the plan configured for the discovered instance in the Oracle agent properties.
-
If a plan is not configured, you must manually assign a plan to the default subclient.
First archive log backup
The first archive log backup runs under the following conditions after the instance is created:
-
If an automatic schedule is associated with the archive log subclient, the first backup runs immediately after the schedule in the plan is assigned, regardless of whether the database threshold options, such as disk usage or number of logs, are met. This ensures that the initial backup is performed to establish a baseline.
-
If no automatic schedule is assigned in the plan, the archive log backup runs when manually triggered, or when a non-automatic schedule with a specific date and time is configured.
