Planning for HyperScale X Upgrade

To prepare for a successful upgrade and minimize disruptions to your Commvault operations, you should complete three essential tasks before starting the upgrade process:

  1. Verify the installed versions of Commvault and HyperScale X Nodes

Confirm that all Commvault and HyperScale X nodes are running the required minimum software versions and meet all required prerequisites. This step is crucial to maximize compatibility and prevent potential issues during the upgrade process.

  2. Run a Pre-Upgrade Readiness Check

Use the HSX3 Pre-Upgrade Readiness tool to verify that your system is ready for the upgrade. This tool will identify any potential issues and provide recommendations to resolve them. Running this readiness tool is a critical step to ensure that the upgrade process proceeds smoothly and without interruptions.

  3. Identify and Document Systems Customizations

Review your environment for any non-standard Commvault packages, third-party applications, or customizations. Document and backup these elements to ensure they are included in the upgrade process. Completing this step will help prevent any operational issues after the upgrade is complete.

Note

Cisco Hardware - If your cluster uses Cisco hardware, it may require additional consideration during the upgrade process. Contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM) or Technical Account Manager (TAM) for assistance in upgrading your environment with minimal disruption.

Legacy BIOS - If your nodes use legacy BIOS, a manual upgrade process is required. For the best experience, contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM) or Technical Account Manager (TAM) for assistance in upgrading your environment with minimal disruption.
