Performing a Live Mount for Hyper-V

Perform a live mount to run a virtual machine directly from a stored backup.

Prerequisites

  • Create a provisioning target. For more information, see Create a Provisioning Target.

  • Run a backup of the VMs that you want to live mount.

  • Verify that the VM owner or the user group that the VM owner is associated with meet the following criteria:

    • Has a role that includes the Browse and Live Browse permissions

    • Is associated with the recovery targets for live mounts.

  • If a passkey is configured for restores, you must have the passkey.

Procedure

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtual machines.

    The Overview page appears.

  2. For the virtual machine that you want to live mount, click the action button action_button, and then select Restore.

The Select restore type page appears.

  3. To select a specific Backup Gateway and/or source for the restore, in the upper-right area of the page, click the Settings button gear button.

By default, the Commvault Cloud software automatically selects the MediaAgent and source as follows:

    • MediaAgent: The software uses the MediaAgent that performed the backup.

    • Source: By default, the software searches for the requested data in the primary copy. If the data is not found in the primary copy, the software selects a secondary or auxiliary copy.

For more information, see Backup Gateway and Copy Precedence Considerations for Virtualization Restores.

  4. Click Live mount.

The Live mount dialog box appears.

  5. Specify the following:

    • Live mount policy: Select the policy to use for the live mount operation.

If no live mount policy is defined, this option does not appear.

    • Virtual machine name: Enter a display name for the live mounted VM.

By default, "VM" is appended to the end of the source VM name to create the display name for the live mounted VM.

    • Network: Select one of the following options:

      • No connection: Mount the VM without a network connection.

      • Original network: Mount the VM with the same network connection as the source VM.

      • Available networks: Select a network to use for the live mounted VM.

    • Copy precedence: Select the copy precedence to perform the live mount from.

  6. Click Submit.
