Changing the Index Server for the Exchange Mailbox Agent

If you need to replace the server that acts as the Index Server, you must perform the procedure in a specific order to transfer the current index to the new server.

Note

  • If you change the Index Server, the index is reconstructed. The time required to reconstruct an index depends on the index size.

  • Hardware refresh of the index server restores data from a specific backup job when there is a hardware failure or replacement. You must download and import the Office 365 Index server DR app from the Commvault Store.

Procedure

  1. Create the new index server.

  2. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Applications > Exchange.

    The Exchange page appears.

  3. Click the Exchange app.

    The app page appears.

  4. On the Configuration tab, in the Infrastructure settings section, next to Index server, click Edit.

The Update Index Server dialog box appears.

  5. From the Index Server list, select the Index Server to use.

  6. Click Update.

A message appears that tells you that the index will be reconstructed.

  7. Click Yes.

  8. To see when the reconstruction job is complete, on the Index Server go to software_installation/ContentStore/Log Files, and then open the IndexServer.log.

When the reconstruction is complete, you will see the following strings in the log file:

    IdxExchangeApp::SubmitCommitChunk() - CommitChunk
     ...
IdxLuceneApp::CommitJob() - Finished playing all log files, doing job end processing
     ...
IdxLuceneApp::CommitJob() - Job end processing done

If the reconstruction was successful, you should see messages that were archived before and after you changed the Index Server.
