After you create a storage policy for SnapVault or SnapMirror (and the primary snapshot copy), you must create a secondary snapshot copy on the new storage policy.
Before You Begin
-
If you haven't done so yet, create a storage policy for SnapVault or SnapMirror.
-
Decide which topology you are going to use. Primary-Vault-Mirror is not supported on NetApp C-Mode.
-
Read about the storage policy that you need for SnapVault or SnapMirror.
-
You will need a storage pool. You can configure storage pools from the snapshot copy wizard, or create the storage pool before. See information about storage pools.
Important
-
To switch to a mirror copy at the time of creation, clear the selective copy option, and then to change the copy to mirror, select mirror.
-
If you create a snapshot copy as vault, then you cannot change the snapshot copy to mirror. If you create a snapshot copy as mirror, then you cannot change the snapshot copy to vault.
-
If you select a selective vault copy, then you cannot change the copy to a nonselective vault copy. If you select a nonselective vault copy, then you cannot change the copy to a selective copy.
-
For first time installations of Feature Release 19 or most recent versions, use storage pools, instead of a library.
Procedure
-
From the CommCell Browser, go to Policies > Storage Policies.
-
Right-click a storage policy, point to All Tasks, and then click Create New Snapshot Copy.
The Copy Details dialog box appears.
-
Enter the following information:
-
In the Copy Name box, type a name for the storage policy copy.
-
From the Protection Type area, select one of the following:
-
Vault/Replica - to back up the snapshots to a secondary storage array. You can maintain the snapshots independently for recovery.
-
Mirror - to replicate the complete content of a volume to a destination volume.
-
-
In the Use Storage Pool area, do one of the following:
-
From the Storage Pool list, select a storage pool.
-
To add a storage pool, click Add, and then follow the wizard for storage pools.
-
-
-
If you are configuring a Vault/Backup copy, then on the Retention Rules tab, click Next. For mirror copies, the Retention Rules tab does not appear.
-
On the Copy Policy tab, in the Source Copy area, from the Specify Source for Auxiliary Copy list, select a source copy for the topology that you want to set up, and then click Next.
-
On the Provisioning Information tab, click Refresh, and then from the Provisioning Policy list, select a policy.
-
On the Resource Pool area, do one of the following:
-
To add a resource pool, from the Available list, select one or more resource pools, and then click Add.
-
To add all resource pools, click Add All.
The selected resource pools are added in the Selected list.
-
-
If the storage policy is associated with OCUM 5.x, then the Select vFiler area is displayed.
Cautions
-
After you select a vFiler, you cannot change your selection. Although you can select a different vFiler from the list, the data will continue to be replicated to the vFiler volume that you originally selected.
-
When you select the Select vFiler check box, then all vFilers on the Selected list of resource pools are displayed in the vFiler list. Use complete filers, not aggregates, as resource pool members.
-
-
Optional: On the Select vFiler area, select the Select vFiler check box and then, from the vFiler list, select a vFiler.
New volumes on this storage policy copy are provisioned under the vFiler that you select.
- If you add resource pools, to update the vFiler list, click Refresh.
-
Click Finish.
