Does Not Apply To: Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale and Dell EMC Unity when the CIFS protocol is used
You can enable snapshot cataloging. Because the snapshot cataloging operation might be resource intensive (depending on factors such as the number of files on the file server volume), by default snapshot cataloging is deferred.
Snapshot cataloging is done on the primary copy. To reduce the load on the server, use a mirror or a vault copy. Snapshot cataloging is not supported for deleted subclients and deconfigured NAS clients.
If a NetApp storage array is used, NetApp SnapDiff v2 is used to catalog snapshots when SnapDiff RPC (Remote Procedure Call) is enabled on the NetApp Vserver. If the NetApp storage array uses ONTAP 9.5P11, 9.6P6, or 9.7, SnapDiff v2 is used. The more recent versions of SnapDiff are faster than the previous version of SnapDiff, so snapshot cataloging completes faster.
For information on configuration requirements for SnapDiff V2 and V3, see the How do I enable SnapDiff V2 or SnapDiff V3 for Snapshot Cataloging or Backup Copy? section on the IntelliSnap - NetApp - Frequently Asked Questions page.
Before You Begin
-
Create a storage policy that does not include the Incremental Storage Policy option and that is only associated with the NDMP subclient. If the storage policy is associated with subclients from other agents, you will not be able to perform a backup copy operation for those subclients.
-
If you want to run Catalog Snapshots on incremental backups, verify that either a full backup is present or that Catalog Snapshots was performed on at least one incremental backup.
Procedure
-
Configure the storage policy associated with the NDMP subclient by performing the following steps:
-
In the CommCell Browser, go to Policies > Storage Policies, right-click the storage_policy, and then click Properties.
-
On the Snapshot tab, on the Deferred Catalog sub-tab, select the Enable Deferred Snap Cataloging check box.
-
Click OK.
-
-
Choose one of the following methods to run snapshot cataloging:
-
From a storage policy:
-
From the CommCell Browser, go to Policies > Storage Policies.
-
Right-click the appropriate storage policy, point to All Tasks, and then click Run Snapshot Cataloging.
You can view the progress of the job in Job Controller window.
-
-
From a subclient:
-
From the CommCell Browser, go to Client Computers > NAS_client > backup_set.
-
Right-click the subclient, and then click Run Snapshot Cataloging.
You can view the progress of the job in Job Controller window.
