InterSystems IRIS/Caché
We recommend that you use the following configuration guidelines when you use the Epic Solution.
-
Configure the client that you use for the InterSystems IRIS/Caché databases to use encryption. For information on how to configure encryption for a client, see client encryption.
-
Configure storage policies for each data set.
Note
Verify with InterSystems and Epic that these are the latest guidelines.
Data Covered by Storage Policy
Best Practice
InterSystems IRIS/Caché databases
Set the storage policy data retention to 14 or more days and 2 cycles.
InterSystems IRIS/Caché journal files
Set the storage policy data retention to 14 or more days.
This value is based on a default installation. You can modify this value based on your Recovery Point Objective (RPO).
-
Use the InterSystems IRIS/Caché Integrity Checker to verify the data. For information on how to use the utility, go to the InterSystems website, Caché Data Integrity Guide.
-
Use multiple data readers when you back up the InterSystems IRIS/Caché databases. For information on how to configure multiple data readers, see Configuring File System Multi-Streaming.
To reduce the backup times, files larger than 100 GB are backed up and restored using multiple streams by utilizing extent-based backups. For more information, see Optimized Backups Using Extent-Based Technology.
-
Run daily full backups of the InterSystems IRIS/Caché database subclient. If you cannot complete a full backup within 24 hours, you must optimize or upgrade the backup infrastructure to ensure that the backups can complete.
-
Use the same operating system for both the production IRIS Caché server and the backup copy proxy machine so that there are no incompatibilities in file systems or volume structures.
-
If you use AIX for IRIS Caché server and you are not using the JFS2 file system, add a file system freeze to the pre-script and a file system thaw to the post-script. For more information, contact your IBM or Epic representative.
-
If you use Linux proxy for the backup copy, disable automatic activation of volumes. Having automatic activation of volumes interferes with HotAdd operations during backup and recovery. For more information, see Best Practices - IntelliSnap for UNIX File System.
-
For all remaining servers, see Epic Business Continuity Technical Solutions Guide for addition backup guidelines.
